Custom Jambs, Pocket Doors and Interior Door Installation in Port Credit

Liam’s home in Port Credit had many doors, but the number of doors was not the most demanding part of the project.

The wall depths were not standard.

That meant standard jamb material could not simply be assembled and installed throughout the house. Each opening had to be measured, and the jamb or jamb extension had to be prepared for the actual thickness of that particular wall.

The project combined four pocket doors with numerous conventional interior doors, each fitted to the conditions of its own opening.

Real projects. Real homes. Real customers.

Wood Job Finish Carpentry is an owner-led finish carpentry business installing interior doors in Oakville, Milton, Mississauga, Burlington, Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener, Hamilton, Vaughan, Toronto and surrounding areas.

Custom Jambs for Non-Standard Wall Depths

A door jamb has to finish in the correct position on both sides of the wall.

If the jamb is too narrow, it sits behind the drywall and leaves a gap that the casing cannot correct cleanly. If it extends too far, the casing cannot sit flat against both the jamb and the wall.

In Liam’s home, the openings required individual preparation. The custom-width jambs and extensions were made to suit the real wall conditions rather than forcing standard material into non-standard openings.

This is the kind of condition covered in Wood Job’s guide to custom jambs and non-standard door openings.

Four Pocket Doors and Numerous Interior Doors

Three doors in one view: a pocket door for the bathroom, another for the walk-in closet, and the bedroom’s conventional hinged entry door.

The project included four pocket doors along with a large number of conventional interior doors.

Pocket doors require their own installation decisions. The slab has to travel cleanly into the wall, remain properly aligned and meet the finished jamb and hardware correctly when closed.

The remaining interior doors were also prepared and fitted individually. Jamb depth, floor clearance, hinge placement, reveals and the final relationship between the door and casing all had to be checked at each opening.

An Exterior PVC Trim Detail

Wood Job’s work is primarily focused on interior finish carpentry. This project also included one limited exterior detail around a pair of exterior doors.

The surrounding trim was built from PVC rather than standard interior trim material. PVC is better suited to an exposed location because it does not respond to moisture in the same way as MDF or other interior-grade materials.

It was a small part of the overall project, but it completed the door openings properly and kept the exterior detail consistent.

Every Opening Had Its Own Conditions

This Port Credit project is a useful example of why a whole-house door package cannot always be priced or installed by counting doors alone.

The number of doors matters.

So do the wall depths, jamb requirements, pocket-door hardware, flooring, casing and condition of every opening.

For homeowners planning door or trim work in the area, Wood Job provides finish carpentry in Mississauga and interior door installation in Mississauga, including custom jamb preparation for openings that do not accept standard material.
