Some projects are not about a full renovation. They are about improving one everyday detail in a way that makes the home feel more current, more functional, and more personal.
This project in Hamilton was one of those.
Susan and her husband, Brad, were a lovely older couple living in a condo. They wanted to replace their existing mirrored sliding closet doors with something cleaner and more updated. Instead of the older mirrored style, they wanted one-panel shaker closet doors that would feel simpler, more refined, and better suited to their home.
The challenge was that replacing closet doors is not always as straightforward as it sounds.
Replacing Outdated Mirrored Sliding Closet Doors
The original closet doors were mirrored sliding doors, a style that was once very common but can now make a space feel dated depending on the home.
Susan and Brad wanted a more timeless look. They chose the clean appearance of one-panel shaker closet doors, which would instantly give the space a more updated and tailored feel.
But there was an important issue.
The existing openings were built to suit the original closet doors, and the dimensions did not match standard door sizes available on the market. In a situation like this, buying ready-made replacement doors was simply not a realistic option.
A Custom Solution
Because standard-sized doors would not fit the existing openings properly, the only correct solution was to build the replacement doors as custom pieces.
That meant measuring carefully, preparing the doors to the required dimensions, and making sure the final result would work with the existing space while still giving the condo a clean, finished appearance.
Custom work like this is often the difference between a result that looks intentional and one that looks like a compromise.
Built by Hand for the Existing Opening
For this project, the doors were custom made to fit the original closet openings.
We documented part of the process in the garage, where the doors were prepared before installation. These in-progress photos help show that this was not a simple off-the-shelf swap. The doors were built and adjusted specifically for Susan and Brad’s home.
After preparation, the doors were primed and finished so they would be ready for installation and consistent with the final look of the space.

A Cleaner, More Updated Look
Once installed, the new one-panel shaker closet doors completely changed the feel of the area.
The old mirrored sliding doors had served their purpose, but the new custom doors gave the condo a cleaner and more timeless character. This type of upgrade may seem small compared to a larger renovation, but details like closet doors are part of daily life, and they contribute a great deal to the overall feeling of a home.
That is one of the reasons finish carpentry matters so much. A well-made custom detail can improve the look of a room in a quiet but lasting way.

A Meaningful Result
Susan and Brad do not use smartphones, so they were not in a position to leave a Google review. But their satisfaction with the project was very clear.
Not every meaningful client experience appears online. Sometimes the best feedback comes from seeing that the homeowners are genuinely happy with the result and comfortable with the work that was done in their home.
For us, that matters just as much.
