Toronto Interior Solid Door and Casing Installation

Not every finish carpentry project needs to be a full trim package.

Sometimes a homeowner needs one specific part of the interior finished properly: the doors, the casing, the hardware, and the clean fit around each opening.

That was the case for Michael’s Toronto home. Wood Job Finish Carpentry was brought in to install 7-foot interior solid doors with casing. The scope did not include baseboards or a complete trim package. It was focused on the doors and the casing around them.

For us, that is still an important project.

A smaller scope deserves the same level of care as a full home trim package. Whether we are installing every piece of trim in a house or focusing only on interior doors and casing, the goal is the same: clean work, professional communication, and a finished result the homeowner can enjoy every day.

Michael’s Review

After the project was completed, Michael left this 5-star Google review:

“Jack is a wizard. Works extremely quickly and efficiently. Most importantly it’s quality work. Had him install 7Ft interior solid doors and he did an impeccable job. Don’t hesitate to give him a call.”

That review means a lot because it captures what we try to bring to finish carpentry work: efficiency, quality, professionalism, and clean installation.

Interior door installation may look simple from the outside, but a good result depends on careful fitting, consistent reveals, smooth function, proper hardware alignment, and clean casing around the opening.

Installing 7-Foot Interior Solid Doors

The main part of this Toronto project was installing 7-foot interior solid doors.

Tall solid doors can make a home feel more refined and substantial. They have a stronger presence than standard hollow-core doors and can give the interior a cleaner, more upgraded feel.

But taller doors also need careful handling.

The height makes alignment more noticeable. The weight of solid doors makes hinge placement, swing, latch alignment, and fitting more important. Any small problem in the opening, hinge side, jamb, or casing can become more visible once the door is installed.

For Michael’s home, the focus was on installing the doors cleanly so they looked sharp and functioned properly.

Door and Casing Installation Without a Full Trim Package

This project is a good example of something homeowners sometimes wonder about:

“Can I hire a finish carpenter just for the doors and casing, even if I am not doing the baseboards right now?”

The answer is yes.

A homeowner does not always need to hand over the entire trim package for the project to make sense. Some clients want only the interior doors installed, while others want doors and casing. Some want to handle baseboards later. And some are doing the project in stages.

That is completely fine.

For Michael’s Toronto project, the scope was specifically interior solid doors and casing. There were no baseboards included in this part of the work.

We are happy to help with focused finish carpentry scopes when they are clear, practical, and can be completed properly.

Why Casing Matters Around Interior Doors

Casing is the frame that visually completes the door opening.

Even a beautiful solid door can look unfinished if the casing is poorly installed, inconsistent, or not fitted properly around the opening.

Good door casing should:

  • Frame the door cleanly
  • Hide the transition between jamb and wall
  • Create consistent reveal lines
  • Meet cleanly at corners
  • Work with the style of the door
  • Feel connected to the rest of the interior

For this Toronto project, the casing was an important part of making the new doors feel properly installed rather than simply placed into the openings.

Returning Later for the Glass Double Doors

One part of the project had to be completed later.

After the main interior doors and casing were installed, the glass double doors for another opening had not arrived yet. Instead of treating that as a problem, we simply planned to return when the doors were ready.

When Michael later called to say the glass doors had arrived, Wood Job Finish Carpentry came back to complete that final part of the scope.

This is an important detail because finish carpentry projects do not always happen in one perfect sequence. Materials can arrive late. Special doors may take longer. A homeowner may complete part of the project now and another part later.

We understand that.

For Michael’s home, returning to install the glass double doors helped complete the door scope properly without rushing or compromising the final result.

A Practical Approach to Finish Carpentry

We always encourage homeowners to think practically about their project.

Some homeowners want a full trim package. Others want to complete the work in stages. Some may want Wood Job Finish Carpentry to handle the doors and casing while they plan to take care of baseboards later.

That kind of phased approach can make sense.

The important thing is that each stage is done cleanly and with the next step in mind.

In Michael’s case, the project focused on interior solid doors and casing. That was the priority, and that part of the home received the careful attention it needed.

Quality Work, Even on a Focused Scope

One of the strongest parts of Michael’s review is this line:

“Most importantly it’s quality work.”

That is exactly the point.

A focused scope is not a small job in terms of responsibility. Interior doors are used every day. They are seen every day. They are touched every day.

If the door rubs, does not latch, feels loose, swings poorly, or the casing looks rough, the homeowner will notice.

That is why even a door-and-casing-only project deserves careful finish carpentry.
