Custom Door Jambs and Interior Door Installation for a Milton Basement Unit

Basement projects often come with surprises, especially when the existing door openings are not standard.

For this project in Milton, Babak contacted Wood Job Finish Carpentry for help installing six interior doors in a basement unit. He was a true gentleman to work with, and he wanted the job handled properly so the doors would look clean, function well, and suit the finished space.

At first, it sounded like a straightforward six-door installation. But once we reviewed the openings, it became clear that this project would require a more customized approach.

Oversized and Inconsistent Door Openings

The biggest challenge was that the door openings were extremely large and inconsistent.

Some openings had different widths at the header compared to the sides. In some areas, one side of the opening was only a wall, while the top had a very thick and wide header. Other openings had their own dimensional differences.

In a standard door installation, the jambs and doors are prepared for predictable rough openings. In this basement unit, almost every opening needed its own solution.

That meant we could not simply install regular pre-made jambs and expect a clean result.

Custom Door Jambs for Each Opening

To make the doors fit properly, we needed to customize almost every single door jamb.

For this type of work, a 4×8 MDF sheet was the best option. It allowed us to cut and build custom jamb components for the oversized and uneven openings, instead of trying to force standard jamb material into spaces that were not built consistently.

Each opening had to be measured carefully, and the jamb pieces had to be prepared to suit the specific width, depth, and condition of that opening.

This kind of customization takes more time, but it creates a much cleaner and more professional result.

Resizing the Doors

The doors themselves also needed to be resized.

Because the openings were not standard, each door had to be adjusted so it could sit properly in its customized jamb and operate correctly. Door resizing requires patience because the final fit affects the reveal, swing, latch alignment, and overall appearance.

Our goal was to make each door look like it belonged in the basement unit, even though the openings were far from standard.

Six Doors Installed with a Clean Finish

Once the custom jambs were prepared and the doors were resized, we installed all six doors in the basement unit.

The result was a set of doors that looked clean, consistent, and properly integrated into the space. Instead of allowing the inconsistent openings to define the finished look, the custom jamb work helped bring everything together.

This is the type of finish carpentry that is often hidden once the project is complete, but it makes a major difference in how the space feels and functions.

When basement openings are uneven or oversized, custom jamb work can make the difference between a door that simply closes and a door that looks properly built into the space.

A Five-Star Review from Babak

After the project was completed, Babak shared this kind five-star Google review:

“I had an amazing experience with Cenk, very high quality job delivered, on time, and all details as promised. Cenk installed 6 doors with custom jambs for me and they look absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended service. Thanks again for the amazing job done.”

For us, this review means a lot because it speaks directly to what mattered in this project: custom work, attention to detail, timing, and delivering what was promised.

Interior Door Installation for Basement Units in Milton

This Milton basement unit project is a strong example of why door installation is not always simple.

When openings are oversized, uneven, or inconsistent, the quality of the final result depends on careful measuring, custom jamb work, door resizing, and patient installation.

For Babak’s basement unit, the solution was not to force standard materials into non-standard openings. The solution was to build the right fit for each doorway.

That is where detailed finish carpentry matters.
